Plasser & Theurer 08-475-45 turnout tamping machine

This machine for turnout and plain rail tamping, levelling and straightening has very high productivity, since by working on a switch, it can wedge the turnout at the same time as it straightens and levels the main track, which shortens tamping time and increases work quality.

It has a one-sleeper split tamping unit able to move out sideways from the machine rack, and fold-out side tamping tines which make it possible to tamp the entire turnout area.

It can operate on both conventional and international gauge track.

The following features are of particular interest:

  • Absolute reference and fixed point working system.
  • Computer-assistance guidance system with prior auscultation and computer optimization of geometry.
  • 8-channel chart recorder for track parameters.
  • Third-rail lifting arm automatically synchronised with the machine levelling system.
  • External tamping unit able to tamp up to 2.80 metres outside the direct track axis, and inside the fourth wire of the longest sleeper in any turnout or siding.
